Bought a 2005 Catalina last fall and first sail which was to haulout for winter, the clamp holding on the heat exchanger hose failed. High water alarm coupled with a failed float switch led to some quick investigation and lessons in where all the thru hulls are and the imperfections of surveys. All winter and spring learning more about the boat.
The subject is thesis material! A seasoned sailor looks at a boat a lot differently than a surveyor does and both season sailor and surveyors come with their own unique traits, expertise, motivation and perspectives.
It was nothing to do with my recent stellar survey it was just the reality of wooden boats from 1969 This year (1st launch under my watch) I was continually amazed and dazed at the time to learn the hard way I needed 4 pumps running not 2 to keep my engine above water when my 32 foot wooden GB took its sweet time swelling up ;) The emergency was short lived but nerve wracking at the time...live and learn.

Sounds like your typical nightmare that will end up being a super learning experience. It will all come together! Thanks for the comment!
